#23-Understanding Physical Processes at Tidal Inlets (1996) [Mehta]

-An inlet is a very complex geologic feature that is composed of a narrow body of water between islands or leading inland from a larger body of water. In tidal sea coasts, inlets often serve as a bridged connection between an enclosed body of water, such as a sound, bay, lagoon, or marsh, and the open ocean. Because inlets constitute an 'entrance' or a recession in the shoreline, there are many physical processes at work. This JCR Special Issue investigates these processes in great detail in order to gain a better understanding of the counteracting forces known to be present at tidal inlets. Dr. A.J. Mehta, professor at the University of Florida and an expert in coastal/esturine hydrodynamics, served as the editor for the Special Issue.
